Sad Day in Sewville...
I have been sewing a lot lately. My sewing bug bit and I have been taking full advantage. A couple of days ago I found a few minutes and plugged in my Pfaff. I keep it unplugged in case of storms and power outages even though I have it on a surge protector. That aside...I was sewing a simple circle of fabric and got the entire way around to realize no stitches had sewn. Oops!!! Where was my top thread? I couldn't find it.
I called Mr. C to rescue me and my Pfaff but several hours and no luck. We agreed it really is time for service. I thought it had been about three years. When I looked up the purchase receipt...October 2004. Nine and a half years! When did the time get away? At any rate I called the excellent shop and set up the take in appointment. March 1st is when we are going to deliver it down the hill. I will be without for a total of about a month. I cannot describe how sad I felt.
I do have my very old cheap Singer that I use to sew cardstock, paper, wax paper and other assorted ephemera. I decided to finish my fabric circles on it. I won't be doing any "good" sewing until I get my Pfaff back in working condition. I thanked my Singer for its service through decades of use.
These are the circles I sewed on the Singer. I am making spare ornaments (click for the tutorial link) for my gift cupboard. These looked like a stack of crepes sitting there waiting for Nutella. Oh I better go have some lunch...celery and peanut butter I think.
So this is a Sad Day in Sewville. I have plenty of other projects to keep me busy.
No rain still. The sun is shining even though it is chilly and breezy. Daffodils are blooming. Trees are blooming...white flowers and pink flowers. Mother Nature is very confused here in Northern California.
Hope you are safe, warm, dry, and making things you enjoy. Now I shall listen to my favorite song by Pharrell Williams...Happy, Clap Along. It automatically brightens my mood and makes me smile.
Creative Bliss and Joy...
Sorry about your friend Pfaff. I fully understand. Here's hoping you get her back in full condition.
ReplyDeleteLove ya - M xo
Not good news to hear you will be without your friend for a whole month but you do have your trust worthy friend sitting quietly in the wings. I have always had Singer machines. My current one is just a simple no frills non expensive model but it suits me well.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy spring. Ours is yet to come.
Hugs Mrs A.
Think of how nice it will sew, when you get it home!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mom bought me my sewing machine almost 33 years ago for a wedding shower gift. It is like an old friend and a treasure. I hate when it is in the shop as well. Your plate ornaments look fun to make and on my list of things to sew.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your machine back soon in excellent working condition!! Have a great evening :)

See why it's good to have multiple "friends"!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSherry, I am so sorry! I hope your month goes very fast. I know I feel very uncomfortable when my machine is in the shop. Maybe you can explore more mixed media type sewing with some new projects : )
ReplyDeleteI am still wishing rain for you all over there! Soon I hope!
Hugs,
Terri
I'm stopping in from Sew and Sows 5 Days x 5 Drawings! So sorry about your machine-- I 'm lucky to have a backup, but it's hard to have fun sewing without your favorite one.
ReplyDeleteI so need to find where to take my sewing machine in too-I have had it for 10 years now and has never been serviced--at least you have a good standby machine
ReplyDeleteSorry about your machine. having surge protector installed in electrics can save possible fire, and blown equipment.
ReplyDeleteI really like those circles.Nice simple but effective little project for when you just want something easy.Love these.
judy
a month is a long time to be without your machine, mine is 21 years old and have never had it serviced, wonder if I should but then the saying if its not broke don`t fix it pops into my head. Also have a janome which was looked at once as I did not use it for a few years and it ceased up, that is about 35 years old!
ReplyDeleteWent back to see what you did with the circles, very nice, will now search for the blog where you found them. Hope the rain comes soon.
Get Well Soon little Pfaff. You are needed.x
ReplyDeleteFor me, Sherry, it's a happy-happy-happy day FOR YOU in Sewville. She wasn't a Pfaff, but she was the only sewing machine I owned for 28 years of sewing bliss... and she was stolen from our RV (in storage). Now that?! THAT was a sad, sad, SAD day in Sewville. :-( Oh, if only I could say, "I'll see her again in a month." She was a wonderful gal.... *sniff* But I am oh, sew happy for you, my dear.
ReplyDeleteHugs and joy,
Kelley~
That does seem a long time to wait, but at least you have your trusty stand by to use. I am naughty and use my one machine for both paper and fabric! It's quite old but still in good condition, my Mum gave it to me when she bought herself a new one (both are still going strong). Hope you get some rain soon, have a good weekend xx
ReplyDeleteSad indeed! Frustrating to stop a good rolling forward motion. My dealer fixed my walking foot right before my eyes and at no charge. I am back sewing with it! Hope yours is quick!
ReplyDeleteSad, but think of how happy you will be to get it back! ~Diane
ReplyDeleteThat's precisely why I have so many sewing machines!
ReplyDeleteHow disgusting to get going on a project and that happen, that is why we have extra sewing machines I guess LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have an old singer I use for cards etc also and have my little white featherweight also as a back up
Hopefully all it needs is the dust blown out of it
I'm sorry about your machine Sherry. I'm sure you'll find lots of other creative projects to enjoy while it's getting repaired. There's always something wonderful going on in your craft room!... I hope you get some rain soon! xo
ReplyDeleteOh it is a sad day to let your primary machine out the door - and it seems like service takes FOREVER... but those stitches will fly off her so gracefully when she returns home. Days like that I'm thankful for hand stitching and applique. Take care, Karen
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your Pfaff is sick. A month seems such a long time, but I know your creativity with find different paths while you wait for your friend to be well again. Wishing for rain.....
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your Pfaff will be going away for a stint at sewing machine hospital. Have fun in the meantime sewing by hand. Good luck and Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteOh no, it's always a sad time when the sewing machines need servicing. Hopefully it's a simple fix and you'll be back to sewing with your Pfaff in no time. :-)
ReplyDeleteBTW I took my Bernina in for service and it turned out to be a good thing. Even though it's been sewing well it had a small bit of thread wrapped around an internal part which would have lead to major unhappiness down the road. And here I thought I was doing a good job with keeping it clean.
I have two machines...my 50 yr old White, I named her Betty... and my Husqvarna Viking, I named her Viki.
ReplyDeleteSo far, no problems with either one. When you get her back, she'll purr like a kitten. I love your site and am becoming a follower.
Your trusty companion will soon be home again. I know you have truly missed your machine.
ReplyDeleteI took mine in for service several years ago and it may be time again. I don't sew as much as you but like people they need a physical now and then.
Have fun when your baby returns.
Hugs
Thank goodness for old machines, but I even wore out my old machine. It is amazing how long today's machines last without our usual oiling like we did on our old machines. Also, isn't it funny how we thought we did a good job with our old machines, but after we got our new machines, it seemed things came out better for some reason? Why is that? enJOY your machine when you get it back. Hope it's nothing serious.
ReplyDeleteWow. That's a long time to be without your machine! I'm even more grateful for my one-day-service technician!
