Three Year Haircut...
It is not like me to post personal photos however this time I am. I have always been very happy with my hair and the way God created me. In my younger years I colored it everything from dark black to blond. I never bleached my hair so it remained in good condition. But after many years of Loreal I never achieved the Heather Locklear cute sexy look that Mr. C loved so much. As I aged I decided to grow it out and let the natural color show itself. I wore it far too short several times through the years and it really never was "me".
So about three years ago I just stopped getting it cut. This is the result. I have very thick and heavy hair.
Over the holidays into the new year Mr. C kept saying my hair was too fly-away. Yes, it had a lot of static with wind and coats in the cold. It made me start thinking that maybe it was time to get it cut. I even measured it to see if it was long enough for Locks of Love. Yes, however they don't want "grey" hair.
I dropped in to see my previous hair dresser (Marye) whom I always adored and she was very sweet. I made an appointment for the last day of February. I cannot believe how nervous I was. I studied hairstyles online and printed out lots of pictures. I dug through old photos of me and took them along too.
In the end this is me with my new haircut and style! I love it. In this photo my hair is still wet. My hairdresser was amazed at how great the condition of my hair was in after three years of only me tending to it. No split ends and not dried out frizz. Yay! So this is the cut with my naturally wavy/curly hair left to air dry. That is the secret to my good condition...I try to never blow dry or as they call it...blow fry my hair.
I can honestly say Marye did exactly what I wanted and what my hair needed. The longest she cut off was about six inches and the majority was about 2 inches in length cut off.
I am able to have my long hair and enjoy it. My mother had long hair for many many years. I can't say Mr. C was overwhelmed as he expected some fabulous hairstyle that just isn't me. I never spend time on my hair any more than I have to. High maintenance is not my style for anything.
Thank you for indulging me sharing something not involving fabric, beads, buttons, lace or fun stuff.
Today was gorgeous weather and we went for a walk along the water canal. Tomorrow is supposed to be more rain and I say yay! Our water canal is barely flowing with only a few inches and should be a few feet.
Enjoying friends and food and life. I love reading your comments and seeing what you are busy doing. Creative Bliss to all...
Look at you, you cute thing! Your hair is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletehugs and JOY,
Kimberly
Wow, that is very long hair - even after you had it cut - I was expecting yr 'after' pic to be a dramatic short style. It suits you long and what lovely condition it is in too. The colour is fab too. You look beautiful - thanks for sharing xx
ReplyDeleteyou have the hair I have only dreamed of, mine is straight and I keep it short, I would love to let it grow out but never have, its been short for years, long suits you beautifully,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, my friend! Your hair looks wonderful and it's great to see your lovely face. I like what your hairdresser did for you.
ReplyDeleteI often think of growing mine out, but whenever I get to that "awkward" stage, I get it cut short again. Then there's the matter of me just being too darn lazy to have to style my hair every day. Wash and go works best for this grandma.
Hope you have a perfect, restful Sunday, Sherry.

I aas surprised to see you had only had a little cut, it looks so healthy your hair. I too had mine long but had it cut chin length as when the grey started to appear it went very fine and flyaway, so much harder to manage now shorter as I cannot put it up etc so now growing it again!! Mine has also gone wavy after been so very straight all my life
ReplyDeleteOMG, you look 10 years younger than that itty bitty profile picture. You are gorgeous and so is your hair but.....Mr. C and I don't see where you cut anything off lol!
ReplyDeleteCarol
Beautiful Sherry! Your hair is gorgeous. I love the new style - wavy and lush. xo
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks beautiful! Dave would be thrilled if I let my hair grow, but I can't stand the weight when it gets too long. Plus, it never did hang beautifully like yours.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that Locks Of Love does not want grey hair.....that is crazy! Getting past that....when I started reading the post I was thinking the hairdresser was going to talk you into a short haircut. Your hair is so very healthy and isn't it nice not to have to bother with coloring. I have heard so many times that coloring your hair makes you look younger, but in my opinion beautiful healthy grey hair is stunning. I love Blythe Danner's hair, so that is the look I am trying to achieve. Grey is beautiful!!! And you prove it!
ReplyDeleteYou are a beautiful lady, Sherry, in all aspects! Doesn't look grey to me, must be a yellow grey. I'm white/white and I have quit getting haircuts as well but mine is thin and straight. Never mind grey, I am a tad green! ;)
ReplyDeleteBTW, I think you should change your profile picture as I think this is more you!!!
ReplyDeleteSherry, your crowning glory is beautiful! How I would love to have such thick, long tresses. They frame your lovely smile perfectly. Natural beauty shines from within. You glow, Girl!
ReplyDeleteYou have such gorgeous hair I can see why you never want to cut it. You can do so many things with long hair.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately mine is very fine, grey and thinning after 10 years of post cancer drugs. Better thin and be alive.

Dear Sherry, your hair is just stunning, so heawy and so long, and then even nature curly...you are so lucky, my friend, and you look fantastic and very sweet!!

Your hair is beautiful....both my girls have curly hair so I'm a bit partial to it. :) Mine is perfectly straight, fine and thin; therefore, it is also short! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteLucky you, blessed with such healthy hair!! It looks lovely! ~Lorraine
ReplyDeleteWell, don't you look fabulous, Sherry! I envy you the curly hair - mine is so straight!
ReplyDeleteEnjoying Springtime here now, and hoping you are too!
xoxo Jane
You look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou and your hair are beautiful! ~Diane
ReplyDeleteFantastic haircut Sherry! I'm about ready to call and get an appointment after two years of not getting mine cut either. It's still brown at the bottom so I will donate to Locks of Love. But that's it, that's the last time I will go two years of not going to the hairdresser. I end up putting my hair up in a ponytail all the time. That's just not a good look for a middle aged woman. So it's time for a shoulder length cut again. Perhaps even a dye job because I love my grey streak I just don't like the rest of my hair to have bits of grey in it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked your day at the salon. Enjoy!
I am glad you shared with us-and I love your hair! I love long hair too but mine has to be trimmed off every 6 months cause the ends get very very thin not thick-but then my hair is very fine. I don't see all that much grey really-looks awesome-as do you.
ReplyDeletewe have a couple days now of spring temps-love it
I just about died laughing when I saw your hair. We could be hair twins. Mine is just as long as yours was before the hair cut and just as wavy. Mine is all new since I lost it all through chemo in 2002 and I don't even own a blow dryer. Never have. Such a giggle. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeletethis is really very helpful article. I go through this site really very nice information.thank for sharing such a nice information.hoboken spa
Mr C should be "over the moon " with gorgeous you. I wouldn't cut it either.I started turning grey and I stopped the Nice and Easy 1 1/2 years ago and have not cut it. Can't decide what to do. My hair is fine and pretty straight. I want your hair!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous with your beautiful long, thick hair! Thank you for sharing. I have very thin, fine, straight hair that I keep very low maintenance as well.
ReplyDeleteYour haircut turned out beautiful Sherry... love the length and all those curls! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your hair looks like mine.
ReplyDeleteI have dark, very thick, waste length hair. As I get older.... it gets curlier every year. A real pain!! I have to straighten it.... then curl it. Takes a couple of hours to fix. It grows like wild fire. I have 4 to 5 inches cut every time I go to the salon. I have to have my bangs done about every weeks.
I've been thinking of getting it cut much shorter for years.... but, just can't part with it yet.
Looks beautiful!
Thanks for sharing.
Elizabeth
Beautiful lady! Your hair is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI have never colored my hair or blown dried it and only when I was in my 20's and 30's did a get it cut and styled in a salon. Then I just let it grow out again. I trim it myself every once in awhile, but I always leave it long enough to pull it back in my prefered "pony tail" to keep it out of my face as I go about my day. It is me. The way I am intended to be ... :) Pat
Just popping by again SSD. Thanks for offering to vote for my 'Hillary Sisters' paper dolls, that's so sweet of you. Voting isn't open to the public though, they have a private panel. I don't expect to win, but getting the free sample of fabric was prize enough for me:)
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks like fine beautiful silk in that first photo - I didn't mention that in my earlier comment.
Take care xx
Hi Sherry thank you for sharing this personal part of your life! Your hair is just stunning as it is. I'm like you too with long hair and love it.
ReplyDeleteYour hair suits you so beautifully and looks so healthy in it's natural colors.
Many women would die for hair like yours! It is such a pity hubby is not as keen as you with it.
You look beautiful! Don't change anything!
Hugs,
Suzy
You look amazing! You're so lucky to be able to grow your hair that long and have it in such great condition. Mine is so darn thin it wouldn't even show up if I let it get that long. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic! I am one of those who'd kill for hair like that, mine is so very fine and slow to grow.
ReplyDeleteCarol and Elle are right: This is your new profile pic. What a beauty you are, inside and outside. That's awesome that your hair is enjoying the fruit of your tender, loving care.
ReplyDeleteThe older I get, the thinner my hair is getting. Yours? I have a hypothyroid, which may encourage my hair to thin. It, too, is naturally wavy and is down to my knees. My husband's favorite hairstyle on me is what I call "peeled onion:" slicked back tight and worn in a twist pinned or chopsticked at the base of my neck. I often wear it like that, but I like to "change it up" frequently.
Personally, I love each lady's personal style, and yours is spelled L-O-V-E-L-Y.
Hugs and happy hair-days,
Kelley~
You are one GORGEOUS lady and your hair is DIVINE! If I knew my hair could even be 1/2 as pretty gray like your's I would throw out Miss Loreal! ;) Thank you for sharing your beautiful soul!
ReplyDeleteNancy xoxo
First, you are GORGEOUS!! Second, I am turning 46 in a few weeks and I have been toying with the idea of not coloring my hair anymore. I have been coloring, bleaching and manipulating it since I was 14! I feel like I want to embrace my grey and be free! You have inspired me so much with this post girlfriend. Who says we have to have short, colored hair after 40? Now you need to change your profile photo because this one rocks! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Sherry! I didn't realize you had such long hair. You need to change your profile photo. :) I like it! I've not cut my hair in a year. I actually think it looks pretty good. The only thing I don't like about the gray parts is that they are wiry and stick up all over the place. When we were in Sri Lanka, I didn't have a blowdryer so had to let my hair dry naturally, but we were walking outdoors every morning and it was easy for it to dry. At home, I have to dry my hair every day as it is very thick and I can't go to school with wet hair. I stopped coloring a few years ago. Was only doing a color wash and some permanent color on the gray but then I decided that's not something I want to do the rest of my life so I am growing older gracefully! And I love having longer hair to just pull back and up and out of the way when needed. Wishing you a lovely day. Tammy
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks wonderful Sherry - you are lucky to have such beautiful, healthy hair, and the waves! I think you and your hairdresser hit the nail on the head with this style - it suits you so much. And the smile on your face says it all!
ReplyDeleteYou are lovely with long hair. Looks like it has some nice curl and body.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for my sweet card and St Patrick's Day sweet little decoration!!!
Hugs, Cory
How about this summer type weather!!!
Gorgeous girl, Sherry!! I am so glad you did not get it all cut off. It absolutely suits you and is perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, Catching up with you and what a doll you are in your new do. It is gorgeous. You look fabulous in long hair. How great to have those natural curls.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty.
Hugs!!
You have gorgeous hair. It really is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful hair Sherry! Glad you are letting the color stay your own. I have lots of gray sneaking into my hair too. I am not going to dye mine, it's too much of a bother and I think women look better with their own hair color. So many who dye their hair just don't get the right color to go with their skin color. My hair is naturally curly and thick. Hubby wanted it long and it grew to just past my shoulders, then he said that I looked better with it short, so I cut it. It's easier to take care of being short. I never blow dry mine either.
