Learning Lettering & Practicing...
Learning lettering at my age sounds so silly to me however I am taking classes with my friend Lindsay, Creator of Cuteness. Lindsay breaks all the rules I was taught in my early years. This is such a fun way to spend a little "ME" time. The tools are simple...paper, pencil, white eraser, black pen (or any color you like) and some fun colored pencils and/or watercolors.
I promised to address an envelope and mail it to Lindsay. I used the "wave" method of addressing. Then a note to include inside and let Lindsay know I am practicing. Lots and lots of practicing. Only ten (10) minutes per day is my homework. I was waiting for an appointment and found the time perfect for a little lettering practice. Just keep a pencil or pen and some paper or a small journal handy and let the fun happen. I have been spending lots of time outdoors doing clean-up yard work. Our weather is wonderful and cool for August so I am taking advantage of it. Not using water is a challenge as I normally would like to hose down dirt and rock walls. We still have had no rain. If any of you have that flooding and too much rain we would be very thankful to have you send it to us. Hoping all are safe from surprise flooding across the East coast. Summer Bliss and Creative Joy...
Oh wow, this is awesome!! I love the different types of lettering. You know, I can hardly even read my writing anymore...I'm out of practice. It seems everything is on the computer anymore so I don't get a chance to write by hand. A lost art!! Have a great evening :)

I took a Watercolor Lettering class from Val Webb and enjoyed it...I'm still not good at it but have all my lessons and it was relaxing and fun...I know you'll use your talent from these lessons in your upcoming art work!! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to take that class! Looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great class. I had to take 'extra' penmanship classes in school! lol
ReplyDeleteWe are absolutely never too old to learn something new...never! Lindsay is such an incredibly amazingly creative being with lettering.
ReplyDeleteI think that's wonderful and sounds like fun. I used to doodle so much but doesn't seem to happen naturally anymore and I find it hard to get back into it and keep up with it on a daily basis. I can remember in 7th grade, my teacher telling me it was wrong to put circles above my i's on papers. I always got points taken off because of that. Now it's okay for me to do it so I should play with letters myself. :) Didn't know anything about flooding. I don't watch the news so never know anything. I'll do a rain dance for you. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun, Sherry! I'm going to check her link. Thanks for the inspiration!

these days we are so into keyboards and do not get to write enough, a 10 min exercise a day is a good idea and I am sure you will create lots of different alphabets etc.
ReplyDeleteYour classes seem like fun. DOn't I wish I could take a class or 2 of anything, but with my circumstances I can't right now. I would take a sewing class if any. I love all the sewing projects out their and would love to give them a try. But I am not giving up on hoping, if that makes any sense.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have floods here in Miami but lots and lots and I mean lots of rain daily. I know we need it but would love for it to calm down and maybe rain only every other day.
Creative hugs back to you, Ana
This looks like a lot of fun. We could all be a little more creative with our handwriting.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter Dana EXPECTED me to do the lettering for her wedding invite. But I had so much fun with it. Actually, she and I both would love to take a class in it. I LOVE to doodle in styles and fonts! SOOO fun! And yours are ADORABLE! No telling what 10 minutes each day will do to enhance your skill.
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy weekend,
Kelley~
Looks like you're having lots of fun with your lettering practice!
ReplyDeleteWould be happy to send you some rain - starting to feel like I live in a jungle or rain forest! But I can't complain as we had several years of drought before this.

Now this is fun. Fancy lettering really dresses up journals, etc. and it does take practice. Seems nobody is ever pleased with their own handwriting, so making it fancy really helps!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun, you are quite good at it too! ~Diane
ReplyDeleteAh, Sherry, such fun! Your letter shows that you've been doing your homework! Nice!
ReplyDeleteBoy, you know how to have all the fun, my friend! XOXO
ReplyDeleteHow much fun it must be, this class your doing:) I love learning new things and I think it is one of the best things that women our age can do for ourselves. Every-time we learn something new we sharpen our minds. To quote Martha Stewart, That's A good thing" :)
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog, delighted to meet you.
Connie :)
Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAnd learning new things at any age is special and vital. You have a knack!
Hi Sherry, so excited for you taking the lettering classes. They sound like lots of fun and a great leaning experience. So enjoyed catching up with you and thank you for stopping by while I was on vacation.
ReplyDeleteHave fun creating. Love your Halloween fun and I so wish I could send you water for your garden. We finally had some rain and it helped so much. Fall is on the way here even though it is hot, you can tell by the way the wind blows and the trees are beginning to have dry leaves fall off.
Enjoy the last of summer my friend.
hugs
What a fun thing to do! I always loved hand writing and would love to take a calligraphy class. blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend some me time with pencil and paper in hand. I know I have enjoyed my creative investment time. Thanks for popping over and commenting on my art journal. Wishing you a beautiful day.
