Christmas Village Calm...
I am overjoyed to have my little Christmas Village set up this year. Mr. C actually took time to wire all the lights into the little houses and shops. Then we set it up on his hand crafted table in the Great Room. This is not an expensive Studio 56 village however I feel so fortunate to be able to share it with my home. It belonged to my mother and when my sisters didn't want it I was thrilled to bring it home. Through the years I have added trees of all shapes and types. Many have very sentimental value...like the variegated green yarn trees my Grandmother crocheted so many years ago. Since I live in the forest I realize all types of trees can coexist. The tiny little white and crystal tree has a little gold mouse on it which of course I love.
Here is the other half of the village. If you see Santa you might agree with Mr. C that Santa is way too big for this village. I believe Santa is larger than life and adds to the wonder of every child who doesn't quite understand how Santa can fit in the chimney. After all Santa is magical!
These photos do not do justice to the village at night when it is all lit up. Each night when the timer comes on I actually get a warm feeling of calm over my Christmas Village.
I don't try to add figurines or homes or shops to my village for I am content with it just the way it is.
Do you have a favorite Christmas decoration that speaks to you each year? This little Christmas Village proves that simple and affordable do have Happiness powers.
I am enjoying hand writing and mailing my Christmas cards each day. I feel connected to the recipient when I spend the time to hand address and personalize each card.
As I type this post it is very dark and cold and raining along with hail. We are getting a really good soaking in this storm. May you be cozy and warm and enjoying your December. Peace and JOY...
Oh, what a gorgeous village!! It looks amazing all lit up!! I love how you've add the trees and I totally agree - Santa is larger than life :) My favorite Christmas decoration is a manger that my Dad made years ago. I add animals when I find them so there are sheep and camels in various sizes sitting around the baby Jesus :) It makes me happy to look at!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful village with us!! Have a great evening :)

I have a Christmas village that is set up on the window sills of our sun room. It does give a warm glow! Enjoy the rain and your village!
ReplyDeleteI came online tonight to send an email to you and I saw where you had just put a new post up! I received the beautiful card and
ReplyDeletebookmark / tag today,, I was so happy, and surprised,, thank you so very very much my far away friend.
Your Christmas village is a work of art and a work of love, I can see it holds a special place in your heart, thank you again,,
what a delightful village, fancy your sisters not wanting it lucky for you though, when lit up the houses look wonderful.I just have a nativity scene and a hardanger angel I put out, do not put up all the embroideries I have done over the years but might put one over the fireplace this year but do not go in the lounge so not much point really.
ReplyDeleteSherry, what a darling little village! How nice that it is even more magical and has lights! It takes me back to childhood when a neighbour's child had a doll's house that had lamps that lit up! Isn't it wonderful to escape the adult world for a while and dance in the land of the child!Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry. Your village is wonderful especially with the sentimental value behind it.
ReplyDeleteI have put my village up this year but not as big as I have done all other years. It is so much work and I hate the mess so I try to finish it in 3 days and I accomplished that this year. I may do a blog post on my decorations this year. I have 2 large trees this year and 4 small ones. I did not put up the rest. Too much work. I can say that my favorite is my family room tree filled with elves. Hope you have a magical Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. Ana
A delightful village. The grand kiddies and I started a village tradition for them. Their mum came home with a new addition home the thrift shop yesterday and all it needs is a light bulb!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your village. I have a HUGE village collection that has overgrown our house since we added more chairs in the living room. My favorite is a Bethlehem village with stucco houses and tents with a blacksmith and pottery maker houses and others that would be found in Jesus time. I also collect Nativity scenes and have a few favorites of them.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas.
Enjoy your sweet little Christmas Village.
ReplyDeleteHello friend, I love you still believe in Santa, and the magic about him, and like you I feel he is larger than life in the eyes of little kids, and big ones ,too :-) Your village looks so wonderful, and I understand the feeling of happiness when it is all lit up . Every year I display a special snata in sleigh all white and glittery, which Rebecca Ersfeld once gifted me, it is gorgeous and I love it also after all these years !!
ReplyDeleteDear Sherry, happy raining to you, and happy friday evening, too.
Hugs, Dorthe
Your village is wonderful. I wish we had space for something similar but apartment life doesn't lend itself to it. The most special item that speaks 'Christmas' to me is a little paper foil angel that was once on the top of a box of chocolates. Remember when grocery stores used those metal 'stamps' for pricing things? If I remember correctly, my little angel is stamped 49 cents. She was the treetop angel on our tree at home when I was growing up and it was the only decoration I kept when we cleaned out my parents things.
ReplyDeleteNo that is Christmas!!!! Lovely...didn't you post on your village in the past? Seems like I've seen it before and I know I enjoyed it then and now!!! Thanks for sharing with us!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour wonderful Christmas village lights up your home and your life! Hard to believe your sisters didn't want it, but maybe they just knew that it was meant for you! Have cut way back on Christmas decorations but still have some favorites like my large 3 Kings felt banners stitched with pearls, sequins, etc. 40 years ago. Have to use a bamboo pole to hang them over the fireplace - suppose we could use a ladder but where's the fun in that!
ReplyDeleteSo happy you're getting some rain at last! I know you needed it during the summer but this should still help restore the water table, right? Happy Christmas! xox Jane
How wonderful to continue a tradition!
ReplyDeleteYay, Mr. C! What a handy guy - I love these little Christmas villages!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have your mom’s xmas village! Family treasure! I’m hopelessly sentimental and I love things filled with memories. Your tree collection sounds so charming too.
I inherited my mom’s xmas ornaments. I love the ones best from when I was a child, many falling apart but so dear to me.
I tried to comment on your owl pincushion post the other day from my iPad and for some reason it wouldn’t let me send it to you - I gave up after three tries. Don’t know what it is with iPads and blogs, sometimes they don’t get along with each other. Anyway, I wanted to say your owls are adorable!
Oh! You’re so such a cheerful soul, you make me smile. I, on the other hand, am feeling cranky - chronic back pain and headaches aren’t leaving me much holiday spirit this year. WAH! I love what you said about addressing your cards — I’ve always hand addressed them until this year and this year I printed out labels since I’m feeling so overwhelmed. I hate to admit it, because I’m a stickler for being “personal” but I’m very much enjoying having made the labels.
Glad you’re getting a good soaking with much needed rain. We are continually being told we have a chance of rain but none has yet to come. Lots of people are removing their lawns in my neighborhood and putting in rocks, gravel or some bark thing. I need to get going on my rain dance again for So. Cal.!
Merriest of Christmases to you and your hubby and your dear ones!
The village looks cute. Glad it came home with you. Hope you have a Merry Merry Christmas. thanks as always for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour village looks so beautiful! I used to have a huge village collection, but when we moved my kids gladly grabbed most of them. I saved a few Coca Cola houses which sit next to my Coca Cola ornament tree. I love the memories I get when I see them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure you have there. It is much better than the Dept. 56 with all of your cherished memories. That is what makes it special. I'll bet it is beautiful at night when it is all lit up.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the handwriting of the cards brings a special connection with those you are sending the greetings.
Enjoy those rains. I'm a wee bit jealous of you!
How pretty both during the day and lite up at night. Thank you for sharing. I didn't decorate at all this year. I'm enjoying seeing every one else's though
ReplyDeleteHugs Lynn
Your village looks delightful lit up at night. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely Christmas village Sherry. I know what you mean about trying to get the photos to do them justice, it is hard. How kind of Mr. C. to hook them all up so nicely with lights.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine this is a cheery site!
Thank you for the adorable tag! and Card. I am amazed at the crochet on the edge! Wow! It is really lovely. Thank you for thinking of me! I sat down and made a tag for you too, and it is in the mail. I hope you get it before Christmas.
Hugs,
Terri
Hi Sherry, I love your beautiful village and that it is a special keepsake of your mother's makes it extra special. Love how you have set it up and the lights are so pretty. I enjoy these small treasures so much. Mine small set is all from the Dollar stores and flea markets to make up the perfect little scene. I have a bigger expensive set I collected over 20 years ago, but the dollar store set is my favorite. I have painted and glittered the pieces to give them a glow and to me they are so special.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your village. I enjoyed seeing it. Merry Christmas sweet friends. xo
