Organized Threads & Flosses...

Today is a beautiful day.  Saturday of Memorial Weekend.  It is easy to get caught up in the idea of having a long weekend...for projects and fun and entertaining and BBQing...however I am reminded of the great sacrifices our service people and animals have made for us.  We have FREEDOM because of all they have done for us through the years.  I am humbled by the gratitude owed to so many who gave so much to keep us free.  Thank you all for your service.

I am thankful that during our recent Winter months I spent a lot of time organizing my threads and flosses for embroidery.  Have you ever purchased a skein of embroidery thread just because?  And then realized that you already had that color?

Now I am happy to find just the color I need or should buy next time I feel the urge to obtain a skein.

I still have other threads however they are more for crochet and crafts and are on their own larger sized ball skeins.  I have them located in a nice large tub on my shelves in the studio.
When I find a wayward skein that may or may not be with a forgotten project I now wind it and place it with it's cousins...all ready to party.
Blessings on this Memorial Weekend Holiday.  Safe Travels.  Embracing Creative Bliss...

  1. It's frightening to think where we would be without the service men, women and animals. God bless them. I have a similar storage system for my threads and hate to say that I have a rather embarrassing amount of containers (all chucked full of threads!) and that's just my embroidery floss!! I was lucky enough to inherit a large amount from my maternal grandmother and of course I've added more colours over the years. More than I will ever use in my lifetime!

  2. Of course we keep buying the same colors...because we like them so much. Your threads look so pretty! I have so many colors because I am a cross stitcher. I hate to start a design and not have the colors I need. But I have not stitched in so long, I no longer have every color ever made. And that's not a bad thing either. LoL

Our service men and women are thought of much more than they will ever know. Not just on these few designated holidays. I am so thankful for the many sacrifices they make for the safe keeping of the rest of us.

  4. Looks great! A friend here was just doing the same thing with her floss. Mine used to be organized when I was hardcore into cross-stitch. Now it's pretty much a mess, as is most of my craft supplies. Maybe one day I'll actually get organized.

  5. My floss is organized like yours...but I have soooo many new skeins that I bought when a stitch shop closed that are not sorted and put in drawer. Luckily it's my Go To place before I buy more.

Terry is a Vet who served in Korea when they took the Pueblo. All of his friend were in Viet Nam. Most of them, if still living, are so sick from being exposed to Agent Orange. For me, it's sad that there are young vets to remember on this coming Monday and EVERYDAY. We pray a day will come when there is peace on the entire earth.

  6. Good reminder for our weekend. Saw a touching piece on tv in which Cub Scouts and their leaders were placing flags in a cemetery. Your floss is so beautifully organized now! I can't recall which one, but a quilting teacher showed us her huge tangle of floss from which she pulls out the needed color. We got a chuckle out of that. Enjoy your weekend.

  7. I LOVE OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN, and am thankful every day for the fact that we can live free thanks to them! Love your box of colors - I learned to embroider one summer, from my Grandmother. She had me keep my skeins of thread in the pages of a Montgomery Wards catalog - it got to be QUITE the heavy little catalog. Happy Memorial Day, Sherry - may you and Mr. C. find something fun to do! XOXO

  8. Such pretty colors of floss. I store mine wrapped around empty thread spools or clothespins and in similar clear boxes. Happy Memorial Day.

  10. Hi Sherry! My ex-husband used to work rotating shift work and I had a lot of free time and organized my embroidery floss. I don't know if they had the plastic cards 30-35 years ago but I didn't know about them and I made my own cards to wind the floss on, out of index cards. I cross stitched so much in those long ago days that I bought every color of DMC floss once when it was on sale - made me smile to see all those yummy colors. Did you see that Lori of Notforgotten Farm has a charming free chart for Memorial Day on her blog? Wishing you guys a lovely holiday weekend! Sally xo

  19. Hi Sherry, I love seeing your threads organized. It feels so good to have our supplies straight. Yes, I have purchased threads in doubles too. I have two of the same containers filled with all my floss for embroidery. Mine was full and then I inherited my mother's so I have two containers filled with every color all organized by color. It really is the best way to keep them dust free and organized.
Wishing you a nice weekend. Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments. You are a blessing and a dear friend. xo
