Discovery & Autumn Decor...

Continuing in my Discovery Journal with Roni of Ink Stains I am pleased with these two pages.  This time I did not concentrate on some new undiscovered technique.  I merely selected two pieces of cardstock.  This top photo is really poor as it does not show the cloud themed blues in the paper.
This blue cardstock is just a great shade of true blue.  I added some direct inking from the stamp pad.  Both of these pages really take me more into the "discovery" angle of this journal.  I discovered it is very difficult for me to focus.  I am always doing too many things at once and these pages really brought that forth.  I "discovered" some old stamps I forgot I owned so I used them and that was fun...mouse and butterfly and dragonfly.  I used a playing card to represent my favorite number...5.  Mostly this exercise got me to thinking and I do believe that is a huge part of my "Discovery Journal" that I am making.  As the days fly past so quickly what is it that truly makes me happy and what is it that I still wish to do?  Ahhh...discovery...
I am not one for decorating my home even though I love how others go all out.  Mr. C is a year round Bah Humbug and does not enjoy any holidays so I keep it to a minimum.  Many years I don't put out anything.  This year I wanted to visit with my little treasures I keep in a box.  So many of my things have a very sentimental value to me and I treasure them.  The black with orange cat is something my Grandma crocheted and made decades ago and I just keep it because she made it.  There is a skull ring that Mr. C found in the desert many years ago when he took me for a dirt bike ride to an old abandoned talc mine.  We both laugh every time we see this ring.  It brings back memories of a great weekend together...and he almost bounced me off that darned motorcyle (I was much younger and lighter back in the day).  :o)
Here are my Halloween treasures...some old some not.  Many of these are just small momentos of years past but I like them and they each have a wonderful memory for me.  When I keep my treasures small and in one area it isn't so bad for Mr. C and that way I can still enjoy them too.
I think this is why I truly love to see and enjoy all the fabulous decorating so many of you do and then share through blogging.  I never really cared much for Halloween as it was SCARY to me.  Now I see that it is so many more things...glamorous, funny, glittery, themed i.e. fairies or wonderful witches.  I am entranced just looking at all the amazing things you each make and decorate with.  Thank you for sharing such wonder.
Our weather is gorgeous...some sunshine, some cooler temperatures, some refreshing rain, some glorious colors emerging on shrubs, vines and trees...all giving infinite inspiration and I am truly grateful.
May you each enjoy much creativity in this the Autumn of the year...

  1. Discovering is what I have found to be the heart of creativity and then the benefit to new things is discovering ourselves. Happy creating, Sherry. I have difficulty focusing as well. I'm sure we are both in good company. ;^)

I am afraid I go "all out" at Christmas, as I love to decorate, and make displays. Ialso decorate two dining rooms at the Home where Mum is. The Residents love it!!I have 2 Really Big boxes of deorations in my garage, and they go up early Dec.

  5. Cherished momentos for you to enjoy.
I don't do much decorating, I'm afraid, except for Christmas. For autumn and hallowe'en, I have a bowl of gourds and a jack o'lantern ceramic candle holder on the dresser top in our hall entrance. Of course, it might just be because we live in the woods and don't have any trick- or-treaters.

  7. Sometimes just getting that journal open is the hardest part for me. Then deciding "where to go" with it. It's hard to let go, keep up the good work discovering :)

  10. Your Autumnal decor looks fabulous Sherry. We really only decorate our home at Christmas but I always think it'd be great to have a seasonal wreath on the front door all year round.

I had a beautiful surprise package today - from you! Thank you for the lovely Halloween ATC and the way it was wrapped was fantastic - I didn't want to break the stitching - lol. The fibres were lovely too. Many thanks Sherry I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness xx

  11. Discovery... I love it! That's a good word for me too I think...
Your journal is looking great and I liked hearing how it all ties together and helps you "discover" things about yourself.
Your Hallowe'en decorations are wonderful and I am so glad you have found a little space to put them. I think it's important for a home to reflect the interests and likes of all the people who live in it!

  17. I love to see all the art journaling that goes on here in blogland. It is something I would love to do but just can't seem to get my creative juices flowing in that regard. I don't decorate much for the holidays anymore either. Just a few bits here and there when the time is right. There have been times that after I've put away Christmas decorations, I've found a few still hanging around in February because they blended in with all the other stuff I have. :/ Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Tammy

  19. Sherry,
I love watching you explain your process. I have the same problem with journals...I just can't focus. Every once in awhile I will try again but I can't seem to sustain the effort! The importance is what you learn from it, I guess.

I decorate a lot for Christmas and my perfectionist husband has places where everything goes, which is a good thing!

    Hugs,
    Suz

  20. Hello Sherry. You are such a sweet lady. I love to read your blog. Whenever I read your post I feel this positive energy. Thank you so much for sharing.
Loe your Halloween decor. My husband was not one for any decorating until I came along. Now he takes me shopping and just pushes the cart along with carrying something or reaching it for me. And then of course pulls out the money to pay. LOL

  21. Last year I decorated for Autumn with everything I have from my Autumn bin.... which this year I forgot to have my husband get off of the top shelf of the garage before he had shoulder surgery last week. It takes me til mid-October to even consider it, as I cling to summer until the rain makes it slip from my grasp...

    Enjoy your weekdend!
