Coloring Can Calm...

Some days a girl just needs to color.  Whether you color inside the lines or outside the lines or all over the lines it is just such a calming way to spend a little time.  My friend Lindsay Ostrom created this drawing and if you check out her blog you will find a free page and lots more information on her wonderful artwork.  I feel blessed to be able to sit for a few minutes and just put color on paper.  Here I have used lots of colored pencils...different brands and types from the cheapest to expensive.
Now I am mailing this as a Random Act of Mail to someone as a surprise.
Fires are still burning and rain is still NOT falling but for now containments are rising and the skies are blue once again.
On this First Day of Autumn I feel a new sense of calm.  Watching the leaves and pine needles dropping from the trees and grey squirrels forage for acorns I am enjoying Mother Nature.  What are you enjoying on this first day of Fall?  Mr. C and I are going for a walk.  We need to do this more often and not let the demands of daily life get in our way.  I also recognize it is Spring for my friends across the ocean and how fresh and clean everything is after Winter has come and gone for you.
Creative Bliss and I do hope you do something that makes your heart happy...

  1. I love Autumn, spring also, I don't like the heat of Summer. I used to spend hours on the beach but not any longer.
I couldn't agree with you more regarding going for a walk and not letting other things get in the way. We are always saying we should take more walks but there always seems to be other things to do.
Love the colouring, but I think most crafts are good for us, I know if I am not making things I go down in mood.

  3. I love coloring with the grandkids. There is something so therapuedic about it.

It hardly feels like fall here either - other than the shortened daylight hours.

  10. Its funny you show this and mention colored pencils. I have wanted to make a pretty canvas frame and use my colored pencils and water pencils and still have not done so. Maybe this could inspire me to. But I have really been busy with the house chores (weekly), baby sitting my niece;s daughter which is delicious and so cute and doing layouts for the babies pictures, Very busy scrapbooking. Will have to share soon in a blog post. I have abandoned my blog. Still hoping you get some of our rain here in Florida. This is non stop every day. Crafty hugs, Ana

  11. Walking, colouring (and zentangling too) are all great pastimes and help you forget what's happening in your life that isn't wonderful. Sounds like you're on the right track!

  12. Lovely coloring! I had to smile when I first saw your post last night. I had just finished coloring fabric with crayons on one piece and watercolor pencils on the other. :) I do hope you have some rain soon. (I keep thinking I should wash my car. It seems to work as a modern day rain dance and we can use more rain here, too.)

  15. Love this saying!!!! It's fun to just sit and color sometimes isn't it! I too love to walk and a good thing! Walking dogs 4 x's a day would not work well if I didn't..HA

  16. OK, I know I'm weird but I just don't see the purpose to sit and color unless it is a page to be used for SOMETHING. That's just me. Stitching is my relaxation. When I see wonderful designs like the one you posted, I think "that would be a great embroidery design". BUT, people need to relax in whatever way works for them so it's all good.
Have a great weekend. Hope your weather gets better.
    xx, Carol

  17. I've seen quite a few coloring books for adults, but none with as cute pictures as that one. Love it! No rain here, but the fire is out. Wishes and prayers that you get rain and no more fires.

  18. Adult coloring books are all the rage now. When I taught kindergarten, I used to like sitting with the kids at the table, coloring with crayons and then using markers to outline the picture. Very soothing. I can't believe fires are still burning. Just terrible. Have a good weekend. Tammy

  21. Hi Sherry, it has been some time that I have been around... Time flies... And you have felt it too, when you feel the necessity to stop once in a while to take a walk with your hubby or simply sit down to colour this most beautiful and meaningful saying. I am happy I have come around today to visit you. This post of yours just gave me the right impulse to let all the washing up and cleaning go and have a walk in the fading sun of autumn... Thank you so much for showing the meaning of life! Have a nice weekend, dear Sherry and see you soon, hopefully!

  22. I love that quote and beautiful image! It gave me a big smile :) Your colouring is wonderful Sherry and I can imagine you had such a joyful and peaceful time colouring this. I have been painting lately and it felt so goooood :) Today we also went for a walk, to smell Autumn and feel the fresh air. It was a beautiful sunny day. But I do hope and pray you will have lots of rain soon to get out the terrible fires! Sending you hugs, xx

  25. ! do hope you get the rain you so badly need soon. Your colouring looks fun to have done. I find it soothing too. I have been busy out in the garden tidying up from the summer. The nights are starting to get damp here and getting dark by 7pm.
I do like your chairs in your post below. Hug Mrs A.
