Rabbit Stitched Needlecase...

This is a small needle case I created for a friend who loves to knit.  Inside I put two yarn needles.  No photo of the inside before I gave it to her.  The Rabbit I embroidered with variegated thread in shades of red which is a favorite color for my friend. This was a simple and quick gift.
It was also easy to mail which is becoming more of a challenge these days with the increased cost of postage.  I was mailing a Christmas card to the Netherlands and I had put the required International postage and the extra for hand cancelling.  I took it to my local post office to confirm I had plenty of postage for this simple card that was standard size.  The postal clerk said, "No!"  This won't fit through my slot and it has to go as a parcel.  The cost would be $13.30!  I said, "NO!!"  How very disappointing.  A simple, regular sized Christmas Card.  I support my post office with weekly mailings and I spend way too much on postage as it is.  This may kill my participation in snail mailing.  So Sad!!!
We got our 5 inches of rain.  We also got a dusting of snow after a wild night of rain, hail, wind, lightening and thunder.  It is now much colder than it has been.  Our poor heater is working overtime and it looks as if we will go through our 500 gallons of propane in record time this Winter.
Thank you all for your well wishes for Mr. C.  We still have lots of sleepless nights with coughing but I do think he is getting better.  He actually had to cancel two events this past weekend in order to stay inside and rest.  I know he missed Go-Karting with his Lotus buddies.  I am guessing they will do it again and he will get to join them.
I'm fixing tacos for dinner tonight as they are one of Mr. C's favorites.  Where do the hours in the day run off to?  I better get busy.  What are you up to for the First of February?  I actually got to play for a bit in my room today.  I'll share soon.  Happy Hearts to You...

  1. Ridiculous, this post office of ours! I discovered that FedEx will ship my packages for around the same price as usps, and get them there in TWO DAYS!!!!! Post Office can't get them there for the same pricing until 5-7 days. The bunny is adorbs! Keep Mr. C in, and yourself healthy

  2. It sounds to me like your postal clerk was mistaken. I would have questioned that and asked to speak with the supervisor or post master. I have learned that all the clerks don't know all there is know. I have questioned their decisions more than once and come away on the correct side.

Your stitched bunny is very sweet! I like that variegated thread.

  3. Glad that Mr. C is improving...it's a miserable dose that's going around this year, that's for sure. As for postage costs - they have gotten utterly ridiculous, particularly here in Canada. I used to love sending out RAOKs but can't afford to any longer. Nor can I order anything from the US when the shipping costs are so hugely prohibitive. The post office here cries the blues because they aren't making as much money and people aren't using them - well, if they were to put the prices down to where they are reasonable then the people WOULD use them. Instead they do the opposite and put the prices up, thinking they will increase their profits. It's a vicious circle.

  4. Your needlecase is just darling.

We were up in the Sierras for Kayla and got around 30" of snow.....and frigid temps.

Shipping costs are crazy these days, but $13 for a card is over the top.

I hope hubby is better soon. That crud has been nasty lately.

  5. such a cute needle case, here postage is getting very expensive, we too have slots to put cards and letters through and different rates for them so think twice when sending cards as to size etc. Good to here Mr C is getting better, indoors is the place to be when it is so very cold. Mum always said you should stay in an even temperature when you have a cough Mums know best

  6. What a lovely, thoughtful gift! I do love needle cases. I do have several, although I haven't made one myself in a long time. My granddaughter made one as part of her fiber arts class. It seems to be that time of year!

  8. Oh gosh! That postage thing!! It really is a pain and too large expense. I have so many things I would like to give away on my blog...books and other things but can't bear the cost of postage. Glad your husband is better. Mine is hacking right now.

  12. A lovely gift! Yes, it's a shame that the cost of postage is so high it becomes prohibitive. I often post parcels where the the cost of postage is more than the value of the contents! Glad Mr C is feeling better.

  14. Hello dear Sherry, I`m back again, after having traveled with Mathilde home, and back home myself again !! We had a wonderful time together.
I love your sweetest embroidery in red, -and I`m agreeing so much with you Sherry,-it has become far too expensive to send snail mail. Here I can send a simple big postcard as a letter, but it costs me 3 dollars for the smallest card, and that being only inside Denmark .... and I dare not tell you what my Christmas sendings did cost me !!!! It have to be my last year of sending Christmas cards around the world, and I`m so sad to say it, only haven`t got the money for it after being a pensioner. I will write this in the autumn on both my blog and FB to ask you all, not to send me any christmas post, as I can`t "pay" it back anymore. Birthday cards /gifts .on the other hand I will go on sending to the ones I normally have send a little greeting or something , they are spread over the year, and therefore is more possible for me.
I so understand you have to stop sending participation post with snail mail. Please also delete me on your Christmas post list dear friend.
I hope for your mr. C he will not cough for 100 days, but that he will soon feeel better ,Sherry.
    Hugs,Dorthe

  15. Your needle case is darling. Love the sweet rabbit in shades of red. Your friend will love it. I understand too well the shipping charges. I had to adjust all my pricing for the shop. Do you print shipping on line? It saves us to 30 percent when you use it. You can do this through paypal.

Glad your Mr. C is doing a bit better. That cough seems to hang on forever. My son is better but still a bit weak from the pneumonia. I sent him some chicken soup.
Glad you got your much needed moisture.
    Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
    Happy Creating. xo

  18. Well they do say rabbit, rabbit, rabbit for the 1st of the month. Yours does look rather grand especially in the red. Rather regal looking in fact. I have been making marbling paper at my local craft group. It was very therapeutic mixing the different colours together and seeing what was created as each piece is unique. Hugs Mrs A.

  19. This is the sweetest gift and I'm sure she will be touched by it. I hope your mister gets over his cough soon. Our PO told me the international rate for an A2 card is $1.20. Of course a heavier or larger card would be more but $13.30 is outlandish. You could mail a box full for that!

  23. Such a very lovely looking needlecase and the rabbit looks so nicely done using red thread. We are having a very different winter here in Saskatchewan. We haven't had much snow at all and temperatures have been incredibly mild.

  24. One year my cards (I was told by the Post office) had to be hand canceled and I had to add more postage. I did and handed them back to the clerk. She set them aside. I asked her to hand cancel them now and she said she would when she had time. Some of my friends sent me the envelopes back showing me they were not hand stamped and indeed went through the machine. When I approached our post master abodut it he said, "so what do you want!" I want my money back. He refused in not so nice terms. I don't deal with them anymore if I can help it. I drive to the next town 25 miles away. At least I have a nicer day.
