Crazy Quilting Progress...

Here we are at the end of July in just two days and it seems the faster the Summer passes, then the slower my progress is on any of my current projects.  And I have not been able to blog because Mr. C's expensive laptop he shared with me for blogging had a Hot Summer Meltdown and lost all of its ability to function.  No contents and no screen to be seen.  Heat Stroke of massive proportions.  That was not a good thing.  Mr. C has spent that last two weeks trying to bring it back to life and rebuild everything.  This laptop is not only for our daily things and my blogging...it contained ALL of Mr. C's Hotrod programs, information on the Streamliner Motorcycle, information on each of our daily drivers and all the work he has done to get his exotic supercar to be able to pass California Smog.  No...Not a good thing at all.  He was devastated.  Of course he had lots of it backed up and that was good.  Right now I am creating my post on it to see if I can use it once again.  Therefore I am choosing to update you on my uber slow progress on the Crazy Quilting project I am taking from Kathy Shaw's online CQ course.  Here is her link.  My photos can be clicked on to enlarge.

These seam treatments are the foundation stitches and will be added to and embellished in time.  So far I do not have a comfort factor with colors and such since I don't have the overall design knowledge yet.

Ahhh...French Knots!  Not my favorite stitch and not easy for me to do.  Now this little row is over 300 French Knots and I still have issues with how to do them.  I am aware that practice makes perfect and am hoping this is true here.  I have over 400 French Knots completed and or done over now so I think I am completing practice and should be moving into perfect...yet I still struggle with such a small little easy stitch.

Here are some other seam treatments and remember this is only the basics.  I am now working on Task 7 and it is really slow going for me.  Mostly because I do not seem to have time for stitching.  I shall persevere and keep going...no matter how long it takes me.
HOT here just like so much of every place across the states.  Triple digits are not common for us however this has been a record setting summer.  We are fortunate to have air conditioning and as much as I am not a fan we do have it on.  Just stepping out the door takes your breath away with the heat blast.  I usually like it hot but for some reason I am not tolerating it like I used to.  Also I have gotten another Strep throat and feel miserable.  First thing the doctor said to me, "Have you been around kids?"  Why yes I have.  We attended a very large picnic and I must have breathed in some germs.  Mr. C also got sick but with a summer head cold.  We are both very lazy and staying indoors and not doing much of anything.  I pray for everyone (people and pets) to stay safe and hydrated.
I will have another little tatting to share with you soon.  For now I shall let Mr. C know his laptop is working.  Summer Sunshine Smiles and Embrace Creative Bliss...

  2. what a disaster losing everything on the computer but so lucky DH is a wizz and has managed to fix it. I too back everything up both on a memory stick and an external hard drive that came with the lap top.
Your crazy block is comng along well, I did the course with Kathy a whole ago and learnt so much. French knots were a problem for me too especially if more than one strand of thread, I tend to do colonial/candlewick knots instead they work much better.Sorry still not sorted the tatting still not stitching but have Alfie for a few days so making a fuss of him

  3. A computer meltdown is never a good thing. I sure am glad you have a backup! When I find my crazy quilt block that I started several years ago, I plan on making CQ part of my weekly routine. However, the reorganizing is going very slowly, and I'm pretty sure my CQ supplies are at the very back of my sewing dungeon!

  4. Yes it is hot everywhere Sherry. Sorry you and Mr. C got ill. Not fun! I found some embroidered things I had put away that I need to finish. They are a set of herbs, so I will be working on those when I need some hand work. I love to make French knots and if only we could get together, I would show you how I make them. One day when I figure out how make a video (and then a good video) I will post some things like that on my blog. Feel better and stay cool!

  5. Sorry about the computer. I hate techno issues. Great stitching. I loved that class until we used silk ribbon. Kathy's classes are the best.

  6. Glad to see your post! Sorry that you and MR. C are both ill, and I hope you get better soon. We haven't quite had triple digits here, but the high temperatures and high humidity makes it feel like it. I've never been a fan of the heat, so I suffer when it gets too hot. I used to struggle with french knots, too, but now I love them. 400 is a nice practice.

I hope he gets it fixed soon. And I hope it cools down for you, too. Have a wonderful weekend my friend!! Big hugs :)

  9. Glad Mr. C was able to fix the computer - not something I would have a clue about how to do. So sorry you've had a 'grunge' - it's not nice to be sick at the best of times, but I think it's even worse in the summer heat. Your stitching looks great btw - despite the angst over the French knots. They look perfect to me!

  14. Hey Girlie!
Love what you are working on, the seam treatments look great. I will have to catch up on all you have been doing. Hot here as well, with rain most every day. Computers are wonderful when they are working but let them decide not to cooperate and we realize how much we depend on them. Hope all info is recovered.

  15. Your crazy quilt blocks are going to be gorgeous! Good job! Hope you feel better soon! My lap top is acting up, too. Not as bad as your hubby's, though. So annoying! I'm no techie! XO

  16. Oh goodness, no, not good at all. I hope the computer is now well over its heatstroke!! Your crazy quilting is very dainty and pretty. There were crazy quilting waistcoats at the competition display I saw recently - one marked down because it had too many seam treatments, which is a shame, I like those decorations of seams.
