Cloth endeavors...

Lately I have not been in a creative kind of mood. My ideas are lacking and my ability to focus and create is completely out of whack. What has happened? Are my skills on vacation? Have I gotten heat stroke and melted my brains so they won't think creatively? Am I piling up too many projects so I am feeling overwhelmed? If I am doing any or all of these things then why don't I stop and re-focus? I know what I like to create and what my focus should be.
Maybe I merely need to let myself take a break and enjoy whatever it is I spend my days doing for the time being.
What do you do when you have "creators block"?
In the meantime I have a project which is forming in the photos above and will be seen in the future as a finished endeavor. It is utilizing lots of fabrics. So for now the work table is full and calls my name.
Happy creating...

  2. You have a project forming already on your table! Mrs. Creatology, you are not stalled!! I think, though, that the heat and the fact that those deer ate your flowers, well, that's reason to feel a bit of focal-lack! {Is that a word?} Happy relaxing today, creating tomorrow!

  5. Oh Sweetie...
I am so sorry that you have creator's blog. You know I think all of our brains have been fried from the heat. It is just awful.

I do know one thing though, I spy with my little eyes some cherry fabric laying with green. OMG I love everything cherry. Please promise to let me know what you create. Everything you touch is gorgeous, so I know it is going to be special.

Go through some of the craft magazines, the new ones out, and see what might pass through your brain. I get some good ideas from seeing other things that have been created. I love your large work table that you have everything all laid out on.

    Happy creating sweetie.
Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  6. Well, Sherry...Let me first say that your cutting table is AWESOME in every sense of the word. I love that you have all that space!!!
Now, where was I? Oh yes, creator's block...It happens to me when I have so many ideas I don't know what to tackle first. The best thing for me is to make a list of all my ideas. Once that's accomplished, I go and have a cappucino and a little chocolate. (hee hee) Then, just pick something off your list and start cutting. Can't wait to see what you're working on.
Thanks always for visiting Brynwood. See you again soon.

  7. I put all fabric & craft stuff out of sight for a few days, then my mojo usually comes back because I miss the mess! xxx

  8. When I get "the block" I usually do something kind of mindless and give my brain a break. It might be a purchased pattern I can just follow - the making of something loosens up my brain when I am just following instructions rather than trying to invent my own thing. And if that doesn't work - I go in the kitchen and bake. That always works! Looks like you are already well on your way to creativity though!

  9. It looks like you have a great project in mind! When I lose my muse, I walk away for a day or so and hope that its there when I return.

  10. I hit these phases pretty often...I think of all kinds of fun things I want to create during the day, AT WORK, and then when I get home, make dinner, do dishes and maybe some laundry ......I lose it all :)
I just tire out :( Oh well, the long winter nights are coming and I usually get back to my old self. Can't wait to see what you create!
    Thanks for the visit :)

  11. I think creativity is like, well, everything else in nature. It has its season to blossom, its season to go dormant and its season to regenerate. It never really goes away, but sometimes it needs to lie quietly in the earth so it can gather the energy to grow in a new way.

Can't wait to see where this cycle takes you next!

  12. I've really had creators' block for most of this summer. Here, anyway, I think it's the heat we've had - it's unbearable and the a/c gets to us, too. However, when I do get blocked, I can't force it, so I have to enjoy viewing others art and also trying to get inspiration from my surroundings. This fabric is beautiful; the colors, alone, get my juices flowing. Have a great weekend ahead xxoo

  13. I so get that way too! It's an awful place to be. Shop, girlfriend! ;-) Seriously, taking a break is good for the creative spirit. Or doing something else like baking or walking or something other than what you usually do. It will come back. I promise! Still...I feel for you. Just came out of a slump too.
    Big Hugs!

  14. I totally understand the feeling! All your questions are good ones to ask when feeling blocked and more than one could be causing the lag. I recently passed a "pause" in my creating too. What shifted me was finding a book on cloth dolls that really sparked my imagination, and then "PooF" the block disappeared. Now I can hardly sleep for all the ideas in my head and all I want to do! LoL!
Your table of fabric is inspiring...I see how you have matched up some...wonder what you are planning to do???
    Hugs,

  15. Oh I so do know where you're coming from, yes, even I suffer from creative block sometimes!

you see, I set myself up for failure sometimes by buying too many supplies and having too many ideas...then yes, the feeling of being overwhelmed is so overpowering that I end up doing nothing!

so what I do, is just wait it out...something eventually bursts and I get back into creating whatever pulls and inspires me the most!

we are all so weird, eh! lol

all that fabric looks like something big is going to come of it!??? just what are you up to woman!?

  21. I take a break when the ideas don't flow. I am very aware of the cyclical nature of my creativity so for me, the down time is just as important to eventually making something as the time I actually spend creating. I usually do something totally unrelated to my art projects - cooking, taking a walk, reading a book, shopping - any easy activity that I find enjoyable. And I don't pressure myself because that always seems to kill my creative urge even more.

    (Great fabrics!!! btw)

  22. Sherry,-
    oh yes been there ,too--
but like Diane sayes, do something else- I try to clean up a bit, but I can see, yiou don`t need that in your tidy place :)

  23. What a fantastic stash of fabric you have - love it all - and the houses are such fun.

Mojo is a funny thing isn't it. Sometimes it is 'full on' and you can't switch it off even to sleep - then other times it just won't come when you want it too! I guess that is the meaning of the saying 'go with the flow' took me a long time to figure that one out!
