Quick Packaging...

Hello faithful followers. Do you ever have those days that just get lost? I completely lost yesterday while it was happening. Today I have decided that there is just no catching up so I shall merely move forward from here. Even my computer has been misbehaving for no known reason. Right in the middle of my post yesterday it decided to just lose all capability of functioning. Maybe my computer was relating to how my day was not progressing well.
I have always been told I am unfocused and therefore not able to stay on task. I like to think that is a good thing as I get more done...or not. :o) So anyway today I have been flitting from task to task to task and I will admit I feel like I haven't accomplished a thing, however I have cleaned and cooked and helped Mr. C put together a BBQ by fetching and holding, which is something I am very good at by the way, sewed two more lace bunnies as Easter is approaching quickly, opened the mail and paid a few bills, visited with a friend who stopped by, answered the phone several times and been able to put away some winter themed candles. Whew! Even I am impressed with all that I have accomplished and it is only early afternoon.
Let's get to the title of this post. Quick packaging is what I made for a couple of my Sister's birthday gifts. I used a beautiful ribbon that I knew she would like. Stitched the sides of the folded ribbon. Then I wrapped a blue Swarovski crystal tennis bracelet I made in tissue paper and slipped it into the ribbon case. I am sad I didn't take a photo of the bracelet as it really is stunning and Marie loves blue as much as I do. In the shorter ribbon case I placed a dragonfly key ring wrapped in tissue paper. As for the closure I decided to keep it very simple and used a small red colored safety pin that I attached a charm to for decoration. I am sorry my scan did not come out very straight or clear. I think you get the idea of how simple and quick these ribbon cases are for giving gifts inside of them. Next I will use the beautiful gold embellished ribbon Marie gave to me on my present as her next packaging for something I shall make and give to her. Ribbon is not only for wrapping around a gift. It can be the gift as well as the packaging. Now her delicate bracelet has a safe case for storage as well.
Let me see what shall I accomplish next? Maybe I better file the stack that has grown taller on my desk that also looks ready to take a dive over the edge. Of course better the papers than me. Oh thank you bloggers for staying with me as now I feel a little better realizing just how much I have completed today.
Happy mid-week to everyone...

Gifts to Give...

Good Morning. We have sunshine and I think we are having Spring. Shhh...we don't want to scare Spring away as we will still have Winter here in Nor Cal. We always get snow in April and/or May. So for now let's enjoy the sunshine, birds singing, flowers blooming and frogs chanting. It is a glorious day.
On the creative update I have been busy however I am not able to show much due to the gift recipients have not seen them as of yet. The little photo at the top is a gift I made and mailed to my cousin in Utah for her birthday coming very soon. The second photo is a birthday gift I made for a friend and will either mail or deliver in person. The two just above are for St. Patricks day. I am meeting a couple of friends for lunch and we will enjoy lots of laughter and food and friendship along with these very simple packages. I am smitten with using patterns from the thrift store for wrapping gifts, especially the ones I am mailing as it keeps the bulk down and the weight at a minimum. That is also why you don't see fancy ribbons and bows on the mailing packages. I prefer to use stickers and keep things flat and simple. For the two in person St. Patrick's packages I used simple twine and gathered the tissue to give it some dimension. On the back side I punched hearts from paint chip samples and used them for a shamrock shape to embellish the plain tissue. I think these are fun and certainly add to the conversation.
I have lots of projects I am working on so I better go and get to them. I will be able to share them in future posts.
May you enjoy your day and be as productive as you wish to be.
Happy creating...

Wrapping tip...

Here is my handy wrapping tip for this busy holiday season.
As you are wrapping presents and you are in a hurry and you still want to be safe...
Measure your paper around your gift and then fold the paper. Instead of grabbing the scissors and cutting the fold line or worse yet opening the scissors and sliding them down the fold line reach for your painting pallet knife and slide it down the fold line. The pallet knife is actually safer and it is offset so you can see what you are doing. I found it quite by accident and am really happy with using this method.
After 40 plus years I still bear a nasty scar from using the open scissor method which slid right through my hand between my thumb and forefinger.
Yes, you can go to the store and purchase a new fangled tool made by Scotch to slice your paper but who has time?
Let's use what we have and be safe all at the same time.
I hope this little handy tip will help you get those gifts wrapped safely.
There are those who love to wrap presents and make it quite a creative experience and there are those who will do most anything to not wrap gifts. I fall into the first category and learned how from my mom who was brilliant at making a gift look like a very special present made just for the recipient. It takes lots of time but with shortcuts like the pallet knife great wrapped packages are doable.
Merry Christmas to everyone and happy gift wrapping.
