Ahhh...August...

This is typical of me.

August is my very favorite month of the year and always has been since I was a little girl. I understand it isn't polite to chose favorites however I cannot help myself. You see I am an August born child/woman. When I was growing up my birthday was never special because there was no school in August so no classroom party for me with cupcakes like the other kids. I did get to celebrate my birthday in the mountains at our family cabin. That was my very favorite place to be. We sisters got to go for walks and play all day in the meadow and the stream. We climbed a "giant" boulder and slid down until our shorts had no fabric covering our bottoms. We walked to the little store and bought nickel candy and ate it whenever we wanted. We spent hours in the local library reading and loving books. I used to practice the fancy "symbols" in the Japanese alphabet...of which I know nothing about. I merely loved copying those beautiful strokes. We played Scrabble in the evenings with our mom. She always won so at night I would sneak the dictionary from the bookshelves and read it in my feather bed with a flashlight so I could play better. We went for nature hikes and walked everywhere. Back in those days there was very little fear of letting kids be kids and free to play outdoors with no supervision. Life was simpler back then.
Another reason August is my favorite month is that my one and only daughter was born just 20 days before my birthday. So we celebrate our month together. She is a Leo and I am a Virgo but that doesn't keep us apart. :o)
August is also my favorite because it is Summer and I love Summer! The heat doesn't bother me and it helps that I live in the foothills where it is at least 10 degrees cooler than other places. Of course don't ask me about winter and snow which I detest. When I was younger August also meant going to the fair which I used to love doing. Our family was big on fairs and traveled to many up and down the state. My mother would make all of us matching gingham dresses and a shirt for dad. She said that way if one of us girls got lost people would at least know to match us up with the rest of the family wearing gingham. Too funny!
August was also the last freedom before going back to school for another year. Not my favorite thing growing up. I did always like getting new crayons and to this day I treat myself to a new box of Crayola crayons each year. Something about the smell and feel of a brand new crayon. I also just bought new yellow pencils and some new glue sticks. Some habits are hard to break and why should I when I use these supplies every day.
If you have a favorite month which one is it and why?
I think it is time for me to go and eat some ice cream for you see it is still my favorite food even at this point in my life.
Awesome August Summer Smiles to all...

Beauty in the mountains...

A new young seedling taking root and growing strong.
Ahhh...August as I have said is my favorite month. This year has been a very eventful August and I have been nonstop the entire time. I have been visiting friends and family. I have checked an item off my bucket list. I am so blessed to be able to experience all that I do. So for a few more days I shall have access to no computers, no blogs, no emails and that is fine by me.
The only things I miss are being creative and making things however September and October will be available to catch up on these activities.
So for now thank you for reading my thoughts I share, for following my blog and for being my virtual friends.

Two Favorites...

I have already posted that August is my very favorite month of the year so that is one of my two. This is a fun calendar I bought for this year 2010 while bargain shopping one day at World Market. It is a Barbie Fashion Model Collection calendar. I just had to have it. I tend to save my calendars from each year and use them for all sorts of things artistic. Hmmm...a future post I predict.
My second favorite is a bonus on the same calendar month of August. Blue! It is my favorite color and this dress is divine. So romantic and feminine. It reminds me of a time when women really got dressed and enjoyed it. Not like now when anything goes and casual is the norm.
What is a favorite color of yours? Do you have a favorite month? What might you do with past date calendars? Inquiring minds want to know.
I am enjoying my August so far by reading a good book and tending to Mr. C who is recuperating nicely from his arthroscopic knee surgery. Neither of us were prepared for how long he will be healing and unable to do all the physical things he likes to do however it won't slow us down much since we have an extremely busy August.

Happy Birthday...

Happy Birthday today.
I shall celebrate this day with my dear hubby and then friends. I have already celebrated with girlfriends for several days. You know as we get older we get to celebrate our birthdays for many days before on and after.
On Tuesday five of us ladies enjoyed our local tea house http://www.mycupofteagv.com/ for lunch and desserts and presents. It is always such a treat and I just love going there. A very special and relaxing day indeed.
Wednesday four of us ladies spent the day enjoying delicious Popeye Pizza, chatting and laughter which is always yummy and fun. Then we headed over to our local Ben Franklin www.benfranklin-crafts.com and did some serious shopping. Since it was the last Wednesday of the month we loaded our "tote bag" full and enjoyed 20% savings on everything we bought. Such a deal.
This coming Sunday I will be enjoying my birthday with my sister Marie and two of our friends. We always have a really fun time because we all shop for incredible bargains that Marie finds as she utilizes her "special radar" to locate just the perfect item at just the best possible price. Then we must fuel our energy with lunch and birthday cake. We will do just that at Buca di Beppo www.bucadibeppo.com . This restaurant knows us and we always have such a great time there.
So Happy Birthday to me and to all my August family and friends who celebrate birthdays this month. Where were each of you when I was little? No body had August birthdays and school was out for summer so I never got a cupcake party with my classmates. Boo hoo hoo...
However I am not sad any longer as I have wonderful birthdays now and they last for so many days of celebration. Hooray!!!
