Ribbon Bookmarks...

Ribbon Bookmarks.

Very easy to complete.

Grosgrain ribbon...approximately 12".

Punched card stock hearts...large and small.

Needle with crochet thread.

Fold over top of ribbon.

Layer small heart over large heart.

Both front and back of ribbon.

Stitch through all layers.

Tie off and cut threads.

Done.

Very easy...right?

These will be part of the table favors for the 90th birthday girl's party. If you look closely you will see the bookmark in the center of the photo is special as it has both a heart button and a punched cardstock crown on the front and back.

Can you think of events that you might make these bookmarks for? Sunday school...birthdays...teachers...home bound seniors...library book groups, kids or adults...

Button Bookmarks...

Button Bookmarks are very easy to make. I had made some and then discovered them in this button book.
I like to use grosgrain ribbon due to it's strength to hold up the weight of a button or two. You really could use any ribbon and either double it or sandwich it with some fusible interfacing. This bookmark actually has buttons on each side of the top. A plain side and a fancy side if you like. It isn't necessary to put buttons on both sides as it tends to make the bookmark too top heavy.

These fun pink bookmarks are merely folded over about an inch on the top and have a couple of fun buttons stacked and tied with twine or ribbon or crochet thread.

This one appears to be my favorite. I used some ribbon that my sister had wrapped my birthday present with. The fun flowers are perfect with this color combination.

I think once you get started you will find a ton of ideas just flood forth. The combinations are endless and the time is minimal for each bookmark. This would even be a good fundraiser item. Now I hope you will see your ribbons and buttons in an entirely new dimension.
Now back to the studio for more creative ideas. This is the season for lots and lots of gift giving and I am one who loves to give handmade gifts. Our family always believed those were the best gifts to give. Lots of time and thought and love put into each and every gift made.
What are you making?

Tuesday's Creative Table...

This is my wonderful creative work table today. I feel so blessed to be able to play with my supplies.
I am using a recycled card front, some cotton fabric, pink and white papers and a sheer ribbon. Glue and my sewing machine will hold them all together.
Here is the finished card and bookmark. This photo is a little intense with the color as the actual card is much more subtle.
Super simple and super quick.
Now to package them and get them mailed to someone who can use some pink cheering up.
What are you working on in your creative space?
I also made a birthday card I forgot to photograph and I already have it sealed for mailing.
Do you recycle greeting cards? What is your favorite way to reuse them?
Please share your ideas.
Happy creating to all...

Simple bookmarks...

A new month and a new week.
The days are getting super busy.
The weather is finally nice and people and events are awakening from hibernation.
So much to do and so much to see.
Time must be managed carefully so all can get done.
Here are a few bookmarks I managed to complete.
Scraps of cardboard.
Trusty glue sticks.
Ivy themed wrapping paper.
Music paper.
Tape transfers.
Corner rounders and hole punch.
Butterfly stickers of course.
Pretty ribbon.
Done.
I like to have these on hand for the little tuck in gift to send with a card.
What is your favorite go to item when a small gift of thank you or hello or feel better is needed?

Winter Hijacked Spring...Again

The rain is so refreshing and clean and clear. I really do like it. However, Winter has hijacked our Spring again. Here it is April 28th and no sunshine again. When I took this picture it was just between hail and snow and a white layer on the ground. Snow level is 4000 feet today and we are 3400 foot elevation. The Sierra's are definitely getting another batch of snow. This rain is so good for our water table. We are on our own well so we are thankful for the rain. It also means we don't have to turn on our drip irrigation system yet.
Welcome refreshing rain.
I was going to post pictures of my clever creative artistic bookmarks I made however I seem to have some little (or big) gremlin who deleted the two pictures I needed. Afterall they were sandwiched in with Mr. Createology's car project photos so I can easily see how a couple of "craft" photos were not needed. LOL
I was going to show you how I use an old catalog for my gluing station. You probably already are doing this or know about this but just in case you aren't using this trick here it is. Get an old catalogue and instead of throwing it out just yet, use the pages for your base to apply glue to your pieces of ephemera. As each page gets messy just turn it over and you have a new clean page to work on.
I recycled some propaganda (so mysterious sounding) mail I had received and cut it into bookmark sized strips. It had some lovely flower photos on one side so I merely embellished around the photos. Some old sheet music, some glittery butterfly stickers, some text and done. The other side I glued my vintage wrapping paper to cover the strip. Some corner punches, a single hole punch and some ribbon finishes and a bookmark ready for mailing and using.
Very simple and kept some junk mail out of the landfill. As for my glue catalogue it takes a long time to fill every page with glue. Once filled you can use it for another art project.
P.S. I couldn't retake the photos because I mailed out all the bookmarks I made.
Do you have a handy tip for gluing paper or such things?

Momentum Monday...

Isn't is wonderful when things come together and you are able to accomplish some things you have begun?! I have had so many projects started that I just had to get some of them completed. So in keeping with my Friday last week and on through a beautiful sunny and relaxing weekend with DH here I am posting about keeping up the momentum and completing a few more projects.
The first photo is of Creative Cue that I have been participating in since inception. Three Creative Studios is hosting this. It is a no pressure very easy and inspiring weekly cue to be creative. Last week's cue was STEM. I will admit that I am not putting a ton of time into this nor am I trying to be super artistic on them but I am able to complete each week on time and it is a spark of creativity to come up with something that no one else is doing.
My second photo is a very simple bookmark. Yes, it is in the color green which for some reason is the entire beginning of March until St. Patrick's day has come and gone. I used one of my little heart yo-yos and handstitched some 6.0 seed beads to it. I handstitched it to a sheer ribbon which also has a strip of grosgrain for detail. The edges of the doubled sheer are a simple straight stitch which adds to the dimension of the overall bookmark yet keeping it very flat so as not to harm your book you are reading. Lots of time and handwork but the result is lots of love and care put into this for my chosen recipient.
And lastly but not least is the photo of five Comfort Dolls. This is a project I have blogged about before and I am passionate about this. People from all over the world make and donate small dolls that get coordinated and sent to Battered Women Shelters for them to have some "comfort" and know that many people are thinking of them and wishing them safe. Check out http://comfortdollproject.blogspot.com to see how you might want to help support this worthy cause. Pat Winter was the founder and has recently turned it over to Brenda Hutchings so let's all do whatever we can. My five little dolls are happy to spread cheer wherever they go. They will travel to Brenda, along with a few coins for mailing expenses, and then she will post where they get to go to give comfort. In the past I even had some of my dolls go to our local shelter. That was heartwarming. Thank you so much Pat and Brenda and all the people who contribute to this amazing and fun project. Bye bye comfort dolls and enjoy your new homes.
Well, my Monday is rushing along and I must get busy. I want to keep the momentum going. Can you believe I still have things to complete. Whew!
What are you working on and would like to complete?
