Creative Blogger Gift...

This may sound silly however I am drawn to people with the same name as mine especially when it is spelled exactly the same.  So when I "met" Sherry on a blog one day I was intrigued.  It turns out she is extremely creative and talented and a wonderfully generous soul.  We have been blog friends for a very long while now. She surprised me with a lovely package in the mail for my August birthday.  See the packaging and details?  I said she is creative.
This is the back of my gift which I did crop so as not to show her email address.  She also hand wrote a special Happy Birthday note to me which was super sweet.  Please visit Sherry's blog and I know you will be smitten if you don't already follow her.
Here it is.  So precious and I adore this little birdy.  She used some very clever techniques with this piece and you can read about it on a previous post she wrote.  The little metal tags that spell fly.  The 3D bird cage.  The beading. This precious bird with texture.
There is a Zumba routine where we "fly" and it has to be my very favorite of all.  So I can relate to this wonderful message.
Thank you so very much Sherry.  I feel very special.  This came to me all the way from Romford, Greater London, United Kingdom so that was a very long flight.  Whew!
May each and every one of you wonderful bloggers find your creative passion and fly with infinite inspiration...

Birds and Butterflies...

Oh My! I do not know what has happened to my scanner but the colors are all wrong on this butterfly card. However, I am showing you a technique that saved my card project.
I had purchased a new Martha Stewart punch with all these wonderful butterflies. I also purchased some premade butterfly cards with envelopes. The stamped butterfly is really gold and embossed on an ecru cardstock. So I took my card and punched the butterflies. Oops...what I didn't realize is that the punch cuts the butterflies completely off of the card. Well that was not attractive. My card front was now very short and my butterfly edge was laying on the table by itself! So I got out the decorative papers and cut a piece to fit the entire front of the card. Then glued on the butterfly border. I also lined the envelope with the same deco paper. Card saved and now usable. I actually like it so well I shall make more like this one using other fun colors.

This is another paper, fabric and lace bird I sewed and embellished. Spring really never came to our neck of the woods. Today it is very cold and rainy again. Winter has truly lasted seven (7) months. Maybe this is why I am enjoying making these fun "Spring" birds.

My prayers and heart go out to all those affected by the horrible tornadoes and extreme weather across the middle section of our great United States.

Altered Spring Bird...

In lieu of Spring weather I made this altered lace bird. With all the snow and sleet and slush and rain and more snow I just had to feel like I could help Spring arrive.
The base is canvas I cut freehand. Then I layered muslin and various laces which I sewed randomly. A muslin heart and yellow feather for the wing. A small brown button for the eye.
Now I have a lovely Spring Bird to help me await the songs of real birds when the weather permits.
I think I shall make some more altered lace birds. I love how tweet (sweet) they are.
Happy hearing of all the wonderful warm weather most of you are experiencing.
Our local newspaper headline actually said, SNOWPRISE! We usually get snow into May but this winter has been especially harsh. We have had storm after storm after storm.
Happy week ahead my bloggy friends...

This is NOT Spring...

This is NOT Spring...
I just stepped out my front door and took this photo.
This snow and rain is here for the next seven (7) days.
Only one of my couple hundred daffodils started to blossom yesterday.
Now it will be smashed to the ground with heavy wet snow.
Please wait for me dear daffodils.
I so look forward to your bright yellow blooms.
That bright yellow that makes me smile.
That gives me hope sunshine will come and stay.
Oh winter you may rest for another year.
Our water tables are happily full to capacity.
Our forest trees have filled their energy with your water.
Please bring Spring...

Two Birds and One Cat...

Here is an adorable little bird I received from Miss Lilla of Hawaii. Many of you already follow her blog and know the fun things she makes and shares. This bird is made with ticking fabric. Lilla also included the cafe au lait sticker just for fun. Thank you so much Lilla. I love my bird.
This is bird two that I received and I am loving the message here. Kerri's blog was the very first blog I ever followed and I am so glad I found her. She is wonderful and talented and heartwarming. I just love this piece of her art. Even the back is decorated and personalized. Thank you very very much Kerri.

And with birds there must be a cat. This is an art piece I received from Terri. She is part of 3 Creative Studios and her blog is filled with lots of art, fabric quilting and zentangling. I am thrilled to have this adorable cat to inspire me. Thank you so very much Terri.
The generousity of bloggers is always amazing. I feel blessed to be able to enjoy so much.
Each of these pieces of art inspire me to create. I think that is partly why I like blogging so much as we all share our ideas and abilities and inspire others to make their own creations.
What will you make this week? I am making some simple birthday cards for January mailings.
Create something that really makes you smile with delight this week. After all we are beginning a brand new year where anything is possible for each of us.

Omiyage...

This is a book titled Omiyage and I have owned it for several years. The author is Kumiko Sudo. She is also the extremely talented artist who makes the lovely fabric gifts. I have always been fascinated with small things that are handmade and on the intricate yet simple note.
This butterfly is one that I made several years ago. Beautiful fabrics cut into shapes and then sewn by hand. Each butterfly has hundreds of tiny little stitches holding it together. I tried to do my best tiny stitching even though none of it shows in the finished butterfly. However I know my stitches are beautiful. The green ties are to hold a small pocket closed. I have a glass heart in this pocket for good luck. Since butterflies are the bearers of 10,000 happinesses I made these and gave them to my sisters one year. I doubt they realize how much time and love went into making each and every one of them.

This is a fabric origami bird that is made with simple shapes and handstitched. Once again I made each tiny stitch as perfect as I possibly could just because. These small birds are so simple and elegant when complete. I placed each bird I made in a lovely little nest (purchased) and then gave them to my dear friends and sisters.
I have many more little fabric items I wish to make from this amazing book. The days of traveling and working on small hand projects while captive on a plane are long gone. I have had numerous little scissors, needles and pins confiscated merely because I never even thought of my lovely hand sewing projects being anything related to terrorism or causing harm to anyone. How sad. So now all those hours are spent mindlessly watching some idiot tv or listening to some music or reading until my eyes are too blurry to see through. I miss my tiny little stitches and the amazing finished fabric gifts. When I am home there never seems to be the time to sit and stitch as so many chores always need to be tended to. Yes, I hear the dryer calling me now to have me fold a load of clothes. Oh joy!
How do you like to spend your travel time when you are captive on a plane?

Room of Creativity...

Ahh the laundry room...also known as the chore room where domestic drudgery is done. Dirty clothes to sort, wash, dry and many of them to iron. Well I am not complaining as I love my laundry room. I even liked it before it just got a new makeover. As Mr. Hubby and I were remodeling the kitchen we had occasion to purchase the riser drawers for our not-so-old Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. I am tall and it was always painful for my back to bend over to transfer the wet clothes into the dryer or to retrieve the dry clothes for folding or ironing. Now no more bending over! Of course Mr. Hubby had to completely empty the washer and dryer out of the room, tear apart the wall to re-plumb the hot and cold faucets and move them up so we could access them with the new taller appliances and paint the entire room with a new fresh beautiful soft blue that I chose.
I should also mention that this is the main room for cat business also. Sasha BooBoo kitty has her meals in this room and her zen sand box for personal hygiene. So to give her some entertainment we wallpapered a nice fish backsplash. I have something else in mind but have not completed it as yet. Maybe in the future I will post a pic if I do it.

Since this room is such a soft lovely blue sky color I just had to paint some clouds on the ceiling. I have three total and I really like the way they turned out. This whimsical clothesline is actually the handiwork of Mr. Hubby. He drilled and attached the wooden perches and then the clothesline and the birds. We really do have blue jays and woody woodpeckers outside so this is just perfect. I plan on changing out the clothes whenever the mood strikes me but for now this adorable summer outfit is perfect. I had fun shopping in the newborn section of the store.
Chore room? Drudgery? Not at all. I really enjoy doing the laundry in this fun new room.
Sasha BooBoo also enjoys the room a lot more now. Sometimes she just sashays down the hall and stands in her room and looks at the birds.
Well I must close for now as I have some laundry to get done. lol :o)

Pond Reflections...

Sitting here at the pond and reflecting on daily life is pure joy. I love this pond.
Welcome to our pond. Mr. Hubby actually went to "pond college" and built this from our land that was completely overgrown and scruffy. He built it to be a still water pond and all of the plants are special water plants that perform duties which keep the pond natural and ongoing.

He also thought of the many critters who would wander in and possibly get stuck so he built this shallow end beach for them to access a drink and be able to get out. We have numerous critters such as skunks, racoons, dogs, deer, herons, ducks, birds, squirrels and chipmonks who all enjoy this wonderful body of water. I love the lilly pads and flowers and my favorite is to see frogs sitting on the lilly pads. We have beautiful iris flowers however I missed photos this year as they come and go so quickly. It seems a shame to wait an entire year and then only have blossoms for such a few short days.

This year we had lots and lots of little frogs and they serenaded us day and night. Even our remote neighbors enjoyed the sounds. Then we had hundreds of tadpoles. Now the tadpoles are morphing into little tiny frogs and I am amazed at the transformation. I truly enjoy watching them for hours at a time. Unfortunately the tiny frogs seem to be moving on and the pond is missing them sitting on their lilly pads...or more aptly I should say I am missing them.

I think this picture is pretty good taken with my wonderful new camera I got earlier this year. Isn't it wonderful that tadpole and frog-pole both posed for me so well?!
I hope each of you enjoyed seeing a bit of our pond and the wonders of it all. The hard work was more than worth the hours of enjoyment we have now. Of course each year brings new and interesting challenges for keeping the pond healthy and sustainable. That is for Mr. Hubby to deal with. I am merely the one who watches the many colors of dragonflies as they soar over the water and the plants as they re-grow after winter and the birds who take their precious little baths in the edge of the water...
I know I am very fortunate and I am eternally grateful for this wonderment.
